Going Full Circle: Hunting, Cooking, and Creating Dinnerware?! Yes, that’s a pussy spoon.

Every year I set goals, and there's always a theme word and a set of measurable goals. 2020 rolled in quickly, and no goals were set, but there was a strong urge to create. Letting the curiosity for creativity fill me; for the first time in a long time, I set intentions that had nothing to do with career or finance. Instead, I invited myself to:

  • Develop one Vietnamese-Chinese recipe per month.

  • Write one hunting-themed children's book.

  • Take a ceramics course.

The desire to play for clay wasn’t random; for 12 years I visited my family in Vietnam every summer, and we owned a ceramics factory that produced hand-crafted bowls, plates, and planters.

Signing up for a 6-week hand-building pottery course by Ami like Miami at Studio Fundamentals was moving because I was connecting with my heritage and going full circle on hunting, cooking, and now making the dinnerware to serve my food on. I am so excited to share the results from my class, and yes, that's a pussy spoon.

The class has motivated me to continue messing around with clay and incorporate the pieces I make into my recipe photos.

I hope this moves you to chase your curiosities!

Love,

Jenny Ly

My purpose is to serve others by sharing the stories and lessons I gain from interesting individuals who hunt, gather, and protect our wild lands. I hope to start a movement of mindful eaters, erase the stigma of hunters and encourage you to do what you love and do it often.
